Market Stories.
Sat 17th October 10 to 3pm
Sun 18th October 10 to 1pm
Join us at City Arts Newbury stall at the Saturday Newbury Market and the Sunday Farmers Market.

City Arts’ Big Draw events this year looks at Newbury’s Markets and their people. We will draw their stories.

Newbury has its regular Saturday (and Thursday) market and a bimonthly Farmers Market.  The stories of the produce and the stall holders vary – where do they come from?, how far do they travel?, what do they sell? and how does it all grow?

Come to the Market Square and talk to the market people, ask questions and draw.

The events are free and easy to take part on, come to the City Arts Newbury stall and pick up a set of drawing materials to use, We will be at hand to give you ideas and help you if needed.

Together we will enrich our understanding of Newbury Markets and the day to day life of their people..

Enjoy, take part and draw with us.

These events benefit from the support and collaboration of RIBA Berkshire and Open Studios West Berkshire and North  Hampshire

Big Draw Exhibition 9th November 2014

Posted on Updated on

All the drawings we did in the two sessions of the Big Draw were exhibited last Sunday at City Arts. A few photos below if you could not make it. The participants enjoyed seeing the display, organised following the street “elevation” but grouping the same buildings drawn by different people together.

BigDrawWall1BigDrawWall2 We also had mini make and take activities which included printing cards, making a model of the chapel, making a mini book and doing photograms.  A group silk painting project lead by artist Helen Mortimer (based on her drawing of City Arts) took the fancy of young and old alike and we can see them here through the process and with the final piece. Thanks Helen and all your helpers!!

Big Draw Activity

Posted on Updated on

Last Saturday 11th October was our first Big Draw day. We enjoyed welcoming a great range of people, and specially families that turned up to draw together and to see what was going on. The walls have started to fill up with drawings and we look forward to seeing more going up this Sunday 19th October.

There is a mixture of styles, with charcoal, pen, ink, liquid ink, colour and black and white, pencils….

See for yourself, come along! we look forward to seeing you here!

Thanks to the incredibly talented Edy Gosselin for her photography (see below), and to her and all the volunteer helpers on the day.
