Collagraph Printing & Viscosity Inks Weekend with Pam Hardman

Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd September, 10am – 4pm

On the first day, we will learn to make Collagraph plates to create highly embossed, sculptural imagery. 

We will use various malleable and sculptural materials to create a range of marks, tones and textures on the plates. 

Working on one or two plates we will print from the plates, using an etching press, and cover mixing inks, combining colours, over printing, masking, intaglio and relief methods of printing. 

On the second day we will continue printing from the plates using various methods including viscosity inking to produce beautifully embossed, richly coloured prints

Art Course for Kids with Sarah Moorcroft (5wks)

Tuesdays: 11, 18, 25 September & 2, 9 October, 4.30pm – 6pm

We’re very excited to introduce, our first Art Course for Kids with Sarah Moorcroft – taking place after school, over 5 weeks during term-time. 

Our beginner’s classes are suitable for children with an interest in all forms of art. 

These classes provide the opportunity for students to discover their artistic talent, indulge in their passion for art and explore their creative side. 

Students will be taught a variety of techniques, including painting & drawing – using various mediums, from pencil and pastels, to watercolours and mixed media. 

At City Arts, we keep our classes small and this allows our students to receive 1:1 guidance and support – tailored to their needs and focused on their progress. 

Age: 8+, 10+ (unsupervised)

Layered Relief Lino Printing with Karen Carter

Friday 14th September, 10am – 4pm

This is a fun, experimental printing workshop, using a combination of lino, polystyrene and high-density foam we will create unique layered prints. 

Simple instruction on making plates will be followed by time to experiment with inking and layering using water-based inks, rollers & spoons. 

This is a process you can easily replicate at home with a minimum of specialist equipment. 

No experience needed, lots of step-by-step demos.”

Mini Felt Berets with Wendy Lloyd

Learn 3D wet felting techniques in this one-day workshop and go home with a mini beret. 

This is a fun class that is suitable for both complete beginners and those who have felted before and wish to try new techniques. 

These berets are sophisticated little hats with loads of attitude. You will learn how to form the 3D beret shape and embellish it in a variety of ways. 

There will be an extensive selection of different coloured merino wool tops to choose from (wool tops are the fluffy carded wool that you turn into felt) so you can create a unique beret in your own colour-scheme. 

At the end of the day you will leave with instructions for putting the finishing touches to your hat. Please bring an old towel and an apron (preferably waterproof).

Spend the day, learning all about the Cyanotype printing process, with Donna Lewis. 

This workshop is for beginners and people with experience of alternative photographic processes.

Donna will take you step-by-step through the process of designing and creating a set of beautiful, cyan prints, using natural and found materials and objects. 

This is a fun and exciting technique, which isn’t too complex and gives great results!

Toddler Craft Session with Sarah Moorcroft

These sessions, with Sarah Moorcroft, are designed to fire your child’s imagination with a relaxed morning of fun, experimental crafts – so come along and get creative with your toddler. 

In each session, there will be a selection of activities to choose from – all of which encourage and develop creativity, motor skills, coordination and play. 

The sessions may be messy, so come dressed for mess. Parent or carer must supervise their child – at all times.

We will look at a number of ways to incorporate collage, simple printing and stenciling into an acrylic painting. We will create an interesting background to work on combined with drawn and painted elements, to make a multi-layered piece of work. 

There will be lots of demos and individual help throughout the day.
