Drawing Mediums 5wk Course with Isabel Carmona

Tuesdays: 6, 13, 20, 27 March & 3 April

10am – 12.30pm

Each day we will explore one medium in earnest: pencil, charcoal, drawing pen, ink pen, and biro. Practice working with line and tone, hatch or scribble.

A fun, practical workshop for those who want to have a go with normal drawing tools and do more. 

You will receive a sketchbook to collect your drawings and other materials needed will be provided for the class.

Cost: £150 (5wks) (all materials included)

Watercolour Flowers

Experimental Watercolour Flowers with Isabel Carmona

Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th March, 10am – 3pm each day

A two-day weekend with artist, Isabel Carmona.

Learn to be expressive with watercolour and try out various ways of approaching the beautiful subject of flowers. 

During this two-day workshop, you will experiment with mark-making, colour and layering of the paint. 

This is an exciting opportunity to explore different tools and ways of applying paint to paper. 

No previous experience needed.

Manga Drawing 5wk Course: Intro for Kids with Donna Lewis

 

 

Saturday Mornings: 31 March, 7, 14, 21, 28 April

10am – 12pm

This five-week intro course will cover Manga drawing, techniques and specialist equipment. 

This course is for beginners and children with experience of drawing. 

Each week, we will focus on different features and characters, and apply them to your work-in-progress. 

In the final week, you will create a hand-drawn storyboard, using all of the elements and skills you have acquired during the course.

Cost: £100 / £20 per session (including Drawing Kit)
Age: 10yrs+ (unsupervised)

tapestry weaving

Tapestry Weaving (3days) with Lorna Goldsmith

Wednesday 18th, Thursday 19th & Friday 20th April

10am – 4.30pm

Tapestry is a slow process that encourages the weaver to slow down, assess colour, texture and form during the making process. 

This introductory course will teach you how to set up the warp and weave, with weft structures in yarn or other more experimental materials. 

Using yarn and a simple frame loom you will learn the fundamental ways of constructing shapes and patterns in a tapestry sample, which you can build on and develop.

Developing Textiles Art – Evening Course with Lorna Goldsmith

Wednesday Evenings: 20, 27 June & 4, 11, 18 July, 6.30pm – 8.30pm

This is a 5 week course with textiles’ artist, Lorna Goldsmith.

The structure and focus of the sessions is a couple of introductory techniques with time to go on to develop them. 

Various textile techniques on surface (printing, embroidery or applique) or by manipulation will be explored. 

Build up a portfolio of techniques to help your textile work, or use the time and space to build on what you learn and then apply it to work you already have in progress.

Sketch & Paint in Newbury with Isabel Carmona

Thursday Evenings: 5, 12, 26 July & 2 August, 6.30pm – 8.30pm

Explore various ways of capturing the atmosphere of a place.

We will meet at City Arts each evening and set off to visit various locations to sketch and paint outdoors (for example West Mills allotments, St Nicholas Church, Newtown Road Cemetery, and the Kennet and Avon canal).

Try out watercolours, pen and ink and mixed media techniques.

You will receive a sketchbook to collect your drawings.

Manga Evening Class

Manga Drawing: Intermediate 5wk Course for Teens with Donna Lewis

Friday Evenings: 6, 13, 20, 27 July & 3 August, 6pm – 8pm

 

This 5 week, evening intermediate course, is for teens with some experience of drawing.

We will cover Manga drawing, techniques and specialist equipment.

Each week, we will focus on the body, proportion, clothing, props and settings. In the final week we will research and create manga poster artwork – giving you the opportunity to produce small and large scale work.

There will be lots of step-by-step instructions, to aid in the design and creation your of characters – with helpful tips along the way.

You will receive a drawing pack.

Cost: £100 / £20 per session (including drawing kit)
Age: Teens

(younger children will be considered, if they have studied the Intro Course with me)

A three day exciting and dynamic workshop, in which you will write poems based on your own ideas, make Concertina and Japanese bound books and decorate them, and create linocuts to illustrate the poems in your book.

You then get to take away your own “Poetry in Print”.

Explore ways of capturing the atmosphere of the City of Newbury, whilst sketching outdoors.  Try out watercolour, pen and ink and mixed media techniques.

During these sessions we will sketch various views of Argyle and Hampton roads and record the beauty of the street.
