Other costs and Materials to bring

Due to CoVid 19 we are unable to share materials so please bring the following:

Paper:

Watercolour Block or Pad 9″ x 12″, 12″ x 16″ or 16” x 20″.

300 g/m2 (140 lb) Not surface. Langton, Bockingford, or Saunders Waterford are all good brands. You may also use loose sheets of watercolour paper cut to size.

Paints:

Watercolours in small tubes are the best, as these allow you to mix large amounts of colour for washes. Or if you prefer, pans of colour in a palette. These are more suitable for smaller paintings and sketches. Winsor & Newton are among the best quality watercolours.

Suggested colours:

  • Cerulean Blue
  • Cobalt Blue
  • French Ultramarine
  • Viridian Green
  • Hookers Green
  • Raw Sienna
  • Burnt Sienna
  • Raw Umber
  • Burnt Umber
  • Payne’s grey
  • Cadmium Red
  • Cadmium Yellow Light
Brushes:
  • Preferably round, sable watercolour brushes in sizes 3, 8, and 10 or 12.  It’s important that these brushes are of good quality and that they form a point when wet. Sables are expensive, so good substitutes are those made from a mixture of real and synthetic hairs.
  • A flat ½” or 1” brush for larger washes
Other Materials:
  • A drawing board for attaching your paper
  • HB pencil and sharpener
  • Masking tape
  • Tissues/Kitchen towel
  • Large plastic palette with several mixing wells
  • A small spray bottle to hold water, for re-wetting your painting
  • Jar for water
  • Putty rubber
  • Any other materials that you like to use

Please bring your own mug for these sessions. There will be hot water for drinks to have during the session.

Please remember also to bring your own packed lunch.
