City Arts with Ace Space at Shaw House

City Arts is joining Ace Space, at Shaw House, for a day of music, art, food and ale – come and join us!

We’ll have our gazebo there, with lots of goodies for sale, including: Handmade Artist’s Books, City Arts merchandise, Homemade Apple Juice from our apple trees and lots more… 

We will also be running a couple of fundraising activities, for all ages and abilities – sounds like it’s going to be a great day for all the family!

A one day festival with invited performers from Unplugged at ACE Space plus Chris Jagger & The Kronies headlining. Held in the beautiful House and grounds at Shaw House. With music, storytelling, comedy, arts and crafts, local food and drink.

Suitable for all the family.

Adults £4, 12yrs and under free. 17yrs and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Mural Inspiration – Two Drawing Sessions

These two *Mural Drawing Sessions* are for teens who would like to enter our Mural Competition and need some guidance and inspiration for their design…

**NB: We are opening the drawing sessions to kids 10+ who would like to learn the skills we will be teaching – however, the age range for the competition will remain the same 13 – 19yrs.


 During the session, you will receive help and tips on:

Large-scale Drawing

Composition & Proportion

Angles & Curves



Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th June

10am – 12pm

Age: 10 – 19yrs (unsupervised – see above)

Cost: £2 per session each (including refreshments)

**Mural Painting Day For Teens**

 Location: Kennet Centre, Newbury (near Vue Cinema)
Date & Time: Sunday 29th July 2018, 10am – 4pm 
Age: 13 – 19yrs 
Cost: £5 per teen (unsupervised) 

Along with local artists and the winner of the competition, all teens are invited to join in the creation of this giant, wall mural!

We have organised two large-scale drawing sessions, to help develop your skills:

Sketch & Paint in Newbury with Isabel Carmona

Thursday Evenings: 5, 12, 26 July & 2 August, 6.30pm – 8.30pm


Explore various ways of capturing the atmosphere of a place. 

We will meet at City Arts each evening and set off to visit various locations to sketch and paint outdoors (for example West Mills allotments, St Nicholas Church, Newtown Road Cemetery, and the Kennet and Avon canal). 

Try out watercolours, pen and ink and mixed media techniques. 

You will receive a sketchbook to collect your drawings.

Cost: £100 (£30 per session)
Age: Adults

Note from Artist:
You will need to bring a stool/chair to sit on when sketching outside. Bring your own pens and paints for this workshops.

Manga Drawing: Intermediate 5wk Course with Donna Lewis

Friday Evenings: 6, 13, 20, 27 July & 3 August, 6pm – 8pm


This 5 week, evening intermediate course, is for children/ teens with some experience of drawing. Children who have attended the ‘Intro to Manga Course’ may apply.
We will cover Manga drawing, techniques and specialist equipment.

During the course, we will focus on the body, proportion, clothing and styles, props and settings. In the final week, we will study and create manga storyboard artwork – giving you the opportunity to produce your own narrative.

There will be lots of step-by-step instructions, to aid in the design and creation your of characters – with helpful tips along the way.
Age: 10+ (children who have studies the Intro to Manga Course may apply)
Cost: £100 (including drawing kit)
£20 per session (if you can’t attend the full course)

Introducing our first clay session for toddler with Ceramicist, Clare Mahoney.

Morning Session: 10.30am – 12.30pm
Afternoon Session: 1.30pm – 3.30pm
Toddlers will be exploring clay, using the activity to communicate and experiment with textures, stamps, hand impressions and simple tools.
We will also take a cast of the work your toddler has created, so you can take a memory of the experience home.
Be prepared to get messy and make some noise!
